Sunday Chat from From My Carolina Home

Another week of exhausting heat, and I am ready for summer to be over. The humidity is stifling these days, and it rains almost every afternoon because of it. I admit a certain amount of nervousness as the weather people mention hurricanes in the ocean, and the news keeps going over what to put in emergency kits. But, I cannot imagine that the particular set of circumstances of three days of heavy rain prior to a hurricane hitting us will happen again. At least I hope not. So, I live each day, grateful for our home and the beautiful land ...

Sunday Chat – Flowers, Mountains, Beading from From My Carolina Home

Last week, My Sweet Babboo and I did a test drive to time the route and check the roads for an upcoming drive for our MINI club. We are leading a group up to the Blue Ridge Parkway for a picnic lunch at Pisgah Inn. There is only one road up to that section of the parkway open to us right now. The Pisgah Inn is open, and we want to bring attention to the business and take our club there to support them. This day, the clouds were settled into the valley so thick that they covered the mountaintops ...

End of Summer Drive and Happy Mail from From My Carolina Home

We had a nice drive recently with some friends. We wanted to drive the Blue Ridge Parkway when the weather cleared and cooled off, so we emailed our buddies and got a group to go. We met at a parking lot, then drove up to the parkway together. The scenery is lush and green everywhere, with cascades of bright yellow flowers here and there. Rock walls like this one are so interesting, some with water coming down.

This section of the parkway, between Hwy 191 and 276 has the most tunnels. I blurred out the SUV in front of us ...

Sunday Chat from From My Carolina Home

We had a lovely time this past week, with family visiting. My Sweet Babboo’s brother and his wife were here for several days to do some sight-seeing, and visiting. We wanted to take them up on the Blue Ridge Parkway one day, and we stopped at Looking Glass Falls on the way up through Pisgah Forest. It was a nice day, not too hot or cold, but a bit overcast.

From there we drove up to the parkway, and went north to Mount Mitchell. Along the way we stopped at a few overlooks for photos.

Unfortunately, as is usually ...

Fun in Blowing Rock from From My Carolina Home

It has been a fun few days with our car club at a multi-day event called Appalachian Adventure, running around the higher mountains of Ashe county. Settle in for a long and picture heavy post today! We’ve been enjoying time with new friends on planned drives, having some great food at several dinners, a concours show in Blowing Rock, and more activities in our beautiful part of the world. There are some lovely pastoral scenes along the Blue Ridge Parkway, and on the back roads to get up to Blowing Rock. These old barns are dotted around the countryside ...
